Ringgit opens higher against US dollar

The ringgit was higher against the greenback in early trade Wednesday, boosted by buying support for the local unit, dealers said.

At 9.08am, the ringgit rose against the US dollar to 3.1740/1770 compared with yesterday's close of 3.1770/1800.

A dealer said the ringgit is expected to trade in the range of between 3.1650-3.1850 today.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was mixed against other major currencies.

The local note was slightly higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.5533/5561 from Tuesday's 2.5534/5565, and advanced against the Japanese yen to 3.1711/1754 from 3.1846/1892.

However, the ringgit eased against the British pound to 5.1136/1197 from the 5.1131/1185 recorded yesterday, and lower against the euro at 4.3008/3055 from Tuesday's 4.2944/2990.--
