The ringgit was traded higher against the US dollar on short-covering in the early session today after yesterday's dip,
dealers said.
At 9.14am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2300/2330 against a US dollar from yesterday's 3.2314/2340 close.
A dealer said traders are buying the ringgit after it started to trade below the 3.2300 level, helping the local unit to appreciate against the greenback in a lacklustre week for the South East Asian currency.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded mostly higher against other major currencies.
The local note appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5696/5726 from 2.5745/5771 yesterday and strengthened against the Japanese yen to 3.1519/1551 from 3.1627/1662 Thursday.
The domestic currency weakened against the British pound to 5.2760/2822 from yesterday's 5.2659/2717 close but strengthened against the euro to 4.3933/3984 from 4.3961/4008 Thursday.
