Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower in early trading today on lacklustre trading against a fairly quiet market
backdrop.
At 9.21am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 2.39 points lower at 1,805.21 after opening at 1,806.78.
Losers led gainers 112 to 104, with 189 counters unchanged, 1,183 untraded and 44 suspended.
Turnover totalled 109.95 million shares worth RM56.83 million.
HwangDBS Vickers Research said there was no overnight lead from Wall Street as it was a holiday in the United States yesterday.
However, external sentiments would likely remain steady, it said.
"Against a fairly quiet market backdrop, the benchmark index may be eager to show resilience by staying above the psychological mark of 1,800 ahead," the research house said in a note.
On the home front, the Finance Index fell 17.84 points to 16,627.41, the Industrial Index was 2.96 points lower at 3,137.01 and the Plantation Index eased 1.33 points to 8,848.32.
The FBM Emas Index dwindled 13.04 points to 12,537.89, the FBMT100 Index lost 12.01 points to 12,266.77, the FBM Ace shed 20.7 points to 5,610.14, while the FBM 70 rose 3.3 points to 14,203.57.
Among actives, Sumatec lost half-a-sen to 30 sen, Bio Osmo gained one sen to 17.5 sen and DSC Solutions was unchanged at 21.5 sen.
As for the heavyweights, CIMB shed five sen to RM7.54, while Maybank and Sime Darby remained unchanged at RM9.68 and RM9.63, respectively.
