KL shares trade mix in early session

Shares on Bursa Malaysia were mixed in the early session today as investors took the cue from the overnight performance on
Wall Street, dealers said.

At 10.12am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.28 points higher at 1,813.88.

Losers led gainers 202 to 197, with 235 counters unchanged, 930 untraded and 20 others suspended.

Turnover was low with 278.15 million shares valued at RM138.87 million traded.

Major US markets were mostly mixed at between -0.1 per cent and 0.4 per cent as positive sentiment from Black Friday sales drove major retail stock performances, a research house said.

Trading volume was also thinner due to the holiday season, HwangDBS Vickers Research said in a note.

On the back of poor external sentiment, the local market may trade sideways amid a quiet market backdrop, it added.

Back home, the Finance Index rose 12.17 points to 16,687.82, the Plantation Index increased 5.01 points to 8,885.06, and the Industrial Index was 7.87 points higher at 3,161.7.

The FBM Emas Index added 28.21 points to 12,579.14, the FBMT100 Index increased 26.46 points to 12,305.24, the FBM Ace rose 16.1 points to 5,614.74 and the FBM 70 dropped 36.189 points to 14,164.08.

Among actives, XOX was flat at 17 sen, Utopia gained one sen to 8.5 sen and Sumatec lost half sen to 30 sen
