Affin IB and Daiwa Securities Group in alliance

TOKYO: Japan's Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (Daiwa Securities Group) and Malaysia's Affin Investment Bank Berhad (Affin Investment Bank), a subsidiary of Affin Holdings Berhad, today entered into a business alliance which marks a momentous collaboration between the two companies.

The signing ceremony for the collaboration agreement was held at the Imperial Hotel here, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is here on a four-day working visit to attend the 40th Asean-Japan Commemorative Summit tomorrow.

The agreement provides for distribution of Malaysian research reports produced by the Affin Investment Bank to Daiwa Securities Group's global client base, and will also allow Affin Investment Bank to distribute Daiwa Securities Group's global research work to Malaysian institutional investors on a co-branded basis.

With this arrangement, Daiwa Securities will channel all its clients' trades on shares quoted in Bursa Malaysia through Affin Investment Bank, and Affin Investment Bank will channel all its Malaysian clients' trades on shares quoted in foreign bourses through Daiwa.

The agreement also provides for equity trading collaboration between the two parties.

The agreement was signed by Affin Investment Bank Managing Director Maimoonah Hussain while Daiwa Securities Group was represented by its Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, Nobuyuki Iwamoto.

Earlier, Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, delivered a keynote address at the official opening of the 32nd Conference of the Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (Majeca) and the Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (Jameca) Joint Conference at the Imperial Hotel.

Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin and senior management officials from the two companies.
