FBM KLCI remains higher at mid-morning

UALA LUMPUR: The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) remained higher at mid-morning, lifted by gains in blue chips and key heavyweights led by Petronas Gas, dealers said.

The benchmark index stood at 1,844.47, up 0.62 point from yesterday's settlement, after hovering in a tight range of between 1,841.76 and 1,845.67.

Petronas Gas, which contributed 2.001 points to the rise, saw its share rise 56 sen to RM23.06 with 118,400 lots changing hands.

HwangDBS Vickers Research expects the local market to follow the downtrend posted on the overnight US stock market, which major equity indices have slightly backed down by 0.2-0.3 per cent.

"Similarly for our benchmark FBM KLCI today, we could see some marginal retreat from its record high close as investors' sentiments could be affected by the US and global markets which mostly have eased off at yesterday's closing," it said in a research note today.

Back home, the Finance Index improved 14 points to 16,905.94, the Industrial Index increased 25.74 points to 3,133.26 but the Plantation Index lost 53.18 points to 9,022.98.

The FBM Emas Index slipped 0.95 point to 12,730.77, the FBMT100 Index shed 0.68 point to 12,463.32, the FBM 70 fell 20.96 points to 14,142.57 but the FBM Ace advanced 23.36 points to 5,647.22
